"PCA 1987 a warm sunny day in Ludwig's corner and for me a day that will always be one of my most memorable. As Ch. Bar King's Scintilla's breeder and co owner I had the pleasure of her company throughput her
show career and retirement. Her win at PCA is the culmination of every breeder's dream after years of hard work and dedication. Scintilla had been retired for a year before being brought back to PCA. She had had two litters of puppies including the winners of the 6-9 puppy dog and puppy bitch classes the same year she won BOB. After Scintilla's very successful show career, 22 BIS and over a 100 group 1sts, most people would rest on their laurels. But after talking to Scintilla's co-owner, Dorothy Hageman, and her handler Barbara Humphries, we decided to bring her back for one more show.

I remember not going to ring side for the variety judging. I sat back under the tent hearing only the applause and shouting that went on. Every time the ring side erupted I thought that the decision had been made. I held my breath and waited for someone to come and tell me the news. After what was an eternity to me I saw my friend Cheryl Braswell come running back from ring side shouting and waving her arms like a mad woman. I froze not ready to be live that Scintilla had won until Cheryl was close enough for me to hear the words.

My dog Ch. Bar King's Scintilla had won the variety at PCA under a very respected miniature poodle breeder, Ann Stevenson, WOW!

After expending so much energy and adrenalin over the variety judging I was much calmer for the Breed judging. I actually watched Scintilla win the breed under
another well respected poodle breeder Anne Rogers Clark.

After we arrived back in San Diego Scintilla was cut down. She went on to produce 18 puppies of whom 14 finished their
Championships. She is the grand dam of Ch. Parade Kiss And Tell and the mother of Ch Bar King Wildways Protocol two influential sires. She is the mother of the multiple BIS and Group winning Ch. Bar King's Shimmer of Wildways who won PCA BOB in 1989. The only mother and daughter in all three varieties to have won BOB at PCA.

After her duties as mother and boss of the dogs, Scintilla enjoyed being the official greeting dog and slumming around the house. My fondest memory of her is laying next to me in the crook of my arm, sometimes on her back, in the early morning before I got up. This seemed to be a ritual for Scintilla because otherwise she always insisted on sleeping at the foot of my bed. I am proud that so many people remember her and admire her for the great show dog that she was. I greatly appreciated the time Scintilla was in my life. I am proud of her accomplishments and successes and have enjoyed showing her children, grandchildren, and now great grandchildren. She lived to be almost seventeen and will always have a special place in my heart."
