Sean was a product of inbreeding, mother to son. It was not a breeding planned by me, but I suppose some other forces were at work when Scintilla and Chairman decided on their tryst. Luckily Scintilla was a product of an out cross.
What I saw in Sean was from Scintilla's dam's side of the pedigree. Long headed, leggy, with a big stride, lots of carriage and attitude, beautiful feet and pasterns. Sean was like a young stallion with mares around to impress, right up until the last months of his life. These qualities in Sean were brought to his puppies and passed down through the generations.
Sean's assets were that you could bring a lower, cubby bitch to him and get elegant puppies. No, maybe the best thing Sean gave us is that his children and grandchildren are good producers. When I go to PCA each year I realize the great influence Sean has had in miniatures.
Qualities I would have liked to change would have been more consistency in producing good pigment. Also Sean didn't influence size in bitches, size in his puppies was all over the place. And although he had a big thick coat he didn't always pass that on.
Even though Sean had been ERG'ed, for most of Sean's producing years there was no test for PRA. So I worried about the possibility of his producing PRA.
Because Sean was a product of inbreeding and therefore "loaded" with certain genetic traits, if he was alive and producing today, he would still have an influence on miniatures.
